The units can be mounted in the ceiling void to control the floor above. It can be placed directly on the surface of the floor that’s being controlled or, most commonly, on the web of the beam supporting the floor. Each mounting method is an equally effective use of an active mass damper (AMD) to control floor vibration.

It depends on various factors such as the floor system, construction material, beam positions and column grid. CALMFLOOR units can control via large floor plates and various column grids from 7.5m x 7.5m to 16m x 9m grid and so on.

Power consumption is around 20-25W and, at its peak, no more than 350W. EPD is in progress.

No, CALMFLOOR can effectively control multiple frequencies, distinguishing it from tuned mass dampers, which only address a single frequency. As such, units can be utilised at strategic locations to control problematic zones only.

CALMFLOOR units are very low in maintenance, design life is 15 years, but in accelerated life testing proved to be serviceable after 50 years. There are minimal contact moving parts in the unit and the magnetic motors and weights do not actually have any contact other than a very durable slideway at the back to support those weights. Everything else inside the AMD is low maintenance.

It’s clear that traditional methods of controlling vibrations for the construction industry often entail significant costs relating to materials, such as concrete and steel. This results in further expenses for labour, transportation, business disruption and on-site logistics. In contrast, CALMFLOOR, at only 67kg, can easily replace undesirable materials to achieve vibration performance. The compelling cost efficiency of CALMFLOOR units far outweighs the use of additional material costs required just to meet vibration performance.

Active vibration control actively minimises any vibrations within a system, such as floors by applying counteracting forces. Active vibration isolation involves isolating a system, such as sensitive equipment from limited external vibrations through insertion of an isolator.

Once we have access to a site most installations are completed on the same day, depending on location. We need to have access to a 13Amp power supply and a CAT 5 ethernet connection for each unit – most clients have these services ready to run. Apart from some basic installation work to the floor, ceiling or web of the structural beam, we only need to make minor adjustments to the software parameters to optimise each unit. All monitoring is then completed via our portal, remotely and securely.

For orders for less than 10 units we aim to supply this from stock. When demand outstrips our supply or for larger orders, a lead time of 12-15 weeks will apply. We’ll often be able to part-supply larger volume orders – please talk to our sales team for more details.

Every floor is different so there can’t be a generic answer to this question, but typically we see reductions in commercial building floors of anything up to 85%. This means that, for office environments, we typically see RF fall from 8-9 to RF 1-2.
